Release Blitz - The Real by Kate Stewart

We're celebrating the release of THE REAL by Kate Stewart!

Contemporary Romance
Stand Alone
Blurb:
They say it happens when you least expect it.

It did for me.

It started the moment I saw the simple message pop up on my computer screen:

Cameron’s Mac: Hi.

And when I met the eyes of the gorgeous man messaging me from across the coffee shop, I never thought my reply would lead to the most intense, sexual, and passionate relationship of my life.

We both agreed to check our bags at the door and put our future hopes and aspirations on the table.

It worked.

I fell in love with his no holds barred attitude, sexy smirk, and undeniably good heart . . . and for a while we forgot about our baggage. We happily tripped over it to get to the other, neither of us willing to show the contents of our pasts in the off chance it could ruin us.

We built our love on a foundation of gray.

It was life in black and white that threatened to tear us apart.

Abbie the witchy woman and Cameron the king of woo. These two had me spellbound immediately after reading the first chapter. I was intrigued as they were when they caught each other’s gaze in that Sunny Side Cafe drinking coffee. Their looks said it all as did their hilarious coffee mugs but it was Abbie’s quirky, cautious and sarcastic personality that screwed it all up. Luckily fate strikes again and that second interaction in The Violet Hour is filled with chemistry and of course Abbie’s BFF , the hilarious and fabulous Bree who makes sure that Abbie has a second chance with Cameron at the Sunny Side Cafe.

From that moment on Abbie and Cameron story is a delicious slow burn to get to know one another through words. Yes, they communicate through Airdrop while they sit in the cafe. It’s different and gives their interaction and relationship a more intimate feel. There’s a reason why they choose this way of getting to know one another and I won’t spoil it here. I enjoyed every aspect of this story and when they took it one step forward to actually dating and being intimate I was already head over heels in love with both Cameron and Abbie. He wooed me and Abbie made me laugh. Their chemistry was undeniable and sizzling hot. This was romance and I devoured it.

Then the other shoe dropped. Yup, I didn’t see that coming and believe me I was thinking about some sort of twist or conflict along their blossoming romance but Kate Stewart had me totally mesmerized by her words that it hit me when I least expected it. My heart was shattered but Kate Stewart puts it back together effortlessly and with so much love and attention to her characters and their story. The topics are serious, taboo and very important. Kate Stewart puts her touch on the story, on a topic that needs more awareness and discussion. The reader becomes emotionally invested in Abbie and Cameron. The pace is spot on from the beginning and kept me glued to the pages. The epilogue left me on a high and with a smirk on my face. The title says it all. This story and its topics feels real and so does Abbie and Cameron’s love. Another smash from Kate Stewart.

EXCERPT:
Cameron’s Mac: Hi.
I looked above my laptop and took a deep breath before I accepted his invitation.

Abbie’s Mac: Hi.
Abbie, he’s going to wear your skin! I tried to ignore my inner voice.

Cameron’s Mac: I saw you with the homeless guy.
Abbie’s Mac: Ok?
He took a sip out of his Real Men Love Pomeranians mug and shrugged before he typed.

Cameron’s Mac: So, that was nice of you. Most people in the city just walk on by.
Abbie’s Mac: Oh. Most people do walk past Bennie. But he’s different and I’m not most people.
He lifted a brow and bit his lip.

Cameron’s Mac: I see that.

Cameron’s Mac: Want to have your next cup with me?

Say yes, say yes! It’s only coffee!
Abbie’s Mac: No, thank you.
You idiot.
His brows drew tight with his frown.

Cameron’s Mac: Sure? How about some breakfast?
My pulse raced with the memory of my last reaction to that type of attention and the consequences, and I answered without another thought.

Abbie’s Mac: No, thanks.
His chuckle was deep and covered me, even across the space between us. He bit his full bottom lip as he typed, his smirk still intact.

Fuck. Me. Damn it, Abbie!
Cameron’s Mac: Well, I guess today is not my day.

Abbie’s Mac: That’s all you’ve got?

I had no clue why I sent that message . . . why I was bothered that he didn’t try harder. Just that fucking smirk. It was sexy as hell.

He read my message and shrugged as he typed.

Cameron’s Mac: You seem to enjoy coffee. I don’t have an agenda. You’re beautiful, I noticed. I wanted to drink coffee with you. You said no. I’m going to scrape up the rest of my pride now and head out.
He closed his laptop and stood while I deflated. Damn it. He was being nice. Since when are guys just . . . nice?

Am I a man hater? Have I become that woman?
I spoke up as he slipped his computer into a worn leather bag.

“I’m sorry,” I offered in quick apology. “I was expecting some horrible line or screwed up proposition. The web, messaging, anything that has to do with technology has been hazardous for me. I’ve seen enough unsolicited dick pics for a lifetime. I was just being cautious.” And that was the truth. But I’d said it aloud in verbal vomit. Did I really say “dick pics” out loud?

He chuckled again as he looked down at me from where he stood, then grinned.

“Today isn’t the right day.” The husky baritone of his voice matched the silky hue of his eyes, which seemed to darken as he looked me over.

“No?” I asked in a whisper as I sized up his six-foot-plus frame and imagined the possibilities.

“No,” he said. “Maybe we can not have coffee again sometime?”

He’d tapped out with a simple ‘no’ from me. He couldn’t have been that interested in the first place.

I couldn’t deny the disappointment welling up in my ovaries.

“Okay.” I lifted the last syllable when he didn’t press further.

Cameron pulled out his wallet and set some money on his table then walked over to mine and did the same.

“At least let me buy your next cup.”

After setting the bills down, he stood over me briefly and I caught his scent—purely masculine. I inhaled as much as I could without being obvious. He didn’t smell like a psycho.

Cameron picked up his man–bag while I pictured running my fingers through his messy, inches thick, dark-brown hair.

Don’t let him leave. Tell him you aren’t that big of a bitch. But that would seem desperate. You aren’t desperate. But you are horny. Omg, are you horny??
As if reading my thoughts, I caught another flash of his teeth and had to bite my cheek to keep my reaction in check.

“I’ll see you.”

“Yeah, see you. And thanks,” I said to his retreating back, an octave louder than necessary. “For the coffee,” I added. Outside the window, Cameron bent and exchanged words with Bennie before sticking some cash in his hand.

Well, Abbie. Guess you’ll just have to wait until the next time you roll out of bed and a beautiful man hits on you. Should happen again, you IDIOT!
Once again, my hesitance had cost me. And I couldn’t help but feel like this time it cost me big.

Sagging into my seat, I continued to stare in his direction, watching those broad shoulders walk out of my life.

Our relationship was a sin, they said, but how can it be a sin to love so deeply?
She shouldn’t have listened to them. Shouldn’t have left us behind. You can’t help whom you love, and without Silvina, I didn't give a damn. A mafia prince without a cause is a rebel with nothing to lose. My brother owned an adult entertainment studio. He wanted me nowhere near it. Thankfully, his competition did. I auditioned. Landed a contract. It's how I took my sins to a new level, my up-yours to la famiglia. Until Silvina was kidnapped, and my world was thrown upside down. Black and white portrait of bearded handsome man in a pensive mood looking away
EXCERPT:
“You know what I love most?” I opened one pearly pink button at a time down her shirt. Once I was done, I spread the shirt open so her simple white bra was the only thing covering her beautiful little breasts. Between them, her ribs showed beneath olive flesh, small ridges lifting and sinking while she waited for my next move. I let my eyes run over her, starting with her eyes, moving down to the center of her chest. I strayed to the left, right above the rim of her bra, and saw what will always make the world fade around me. Her heart. Steadily speeding up, it thudded against her ribs, meeting me with the worship I felt for her. I ripped my shirt off. Leaped to the door and locked it. My urgency made her laugh, and I loved, loved making her laugh. “You’re killing me,” I whispered. Slowly, I lowered myself until I fitted my heart against hers. Heavy, I kept us joined, my heart absorbing her rhythm. We breathed together, and kissing her neck, I reveled in the sensation of her love against my skin. “Do you feel me?” I asked. With my lips, I tickled her ear. I moved a lock of hair away with my tongue, making her husk out a laugh again. “You’re obsessed with hearts,” she whispered, funny. Serious. “Can you? I feel you.” I thrusted my cock against her thigh. Too low, I didn’t hit her core, but that was okay. I’d do that soon anyway. For now, it was our hearts that concerned me. I wanted us to share this. Her rhythm thrummed through my chest, and I wanted it to carry into every bone of my body. “You make me breathe too fast.” I pulled up to look into her eyes. Mischievous, they backed up the blush of her cheeks. “You like me on top of you. Admit it.” “Okay.” “I heard that. You’re panting.” I pulled her lower lip into my mouth, and she arched her back from the mattress, meeting my thrusts. “Give me more.” Her words were the hottest sighs stirring each ounce of me into action. Still, I held back. There was nothing like those seconds of insanity, of knowing the pleasure to come with the one person that was made for you only. My Silvina. My Ina. Ina mia. “See, I can’t do that. There are rules, you know,” I said. “And what are those?” Always in sync with me, her voice was playful too. “You don’t know?” I licked along the fleshy tip of her lower lip, dipping inside and finding her tongue. I sucked on her mouth, savoring our kiss until she moaned out her impatience with me. God, I loved her impatience. I rolled her over so she was sprawled on top of me. “The rule is that our hearts have to beat together.” “They do. They do. Come on, baby.” “Your heart beats perfectly against me, but you haven’t felt mine yet.” I pressed her closer, aligning us, sneaking one hand inside the rim of her skirt, wiggling it under the lining of her panties. I pressed downward until I had one delicious ass cheek cupped in my palm. “God, I love you so much.” “I feel your heart every day.” “Only when you sleep on it. But now. Feel it now.” She squirmed, and I loosened my arms so she could shift downward like she wanted to. The top of Ina mia’s head reached my Adam’s apple, the bliss-filled pain of her shifting downward made me groan. Winded, she puffed out her amusement, and I forgot to breathe as she stilled over me, ear flat against the left side of my chest. Exhaling quietly, she listened, and in that moment, everything I’d ever felt for her congregated as a pack of dynamite in my chest. “Anything?” I whispered. At first, she didn’t answer. My hand moved, enjoying the dip between her thinnest, softest rib and her waist. I closed my eyes. It wasn’t the first time we’d worried about our future. It wouldn’t be the last. But it might have been the first time I realized that each moment with her could be our last. “Yes,” she whispered. “Your heart is talking to me.” “What’s it saying?” “All the things.” I let out a snort. “All the things, huh? Is it happy? Sad? Mad? Oh, it’s mad.” “Nah. Your heart is in love.” “Really?” I collected the long, thick strands of hair spread over her back in a makeshift ponytail. Then, I angled her face toward me. “With what?” “With mine.” “Che sorpresa.” REGRET_TEASER5

“I think a part of you will be mine to love in every life.”
It’s almost been 24 hours since I finished Epoch and I’m still finding it hard to put it into words what’ve just read and experienced. Still in awe and I’m going to try to explain this state I’m in emotionally cause reading Transcend and afterwards Epoch was pulling out emotions I didn’t expect. Epoch was pretty spectacular. Out of this world.

I simply loved and adored Swayze, Griffin and Nate. That’s it. These characters had my heart and support in Transcend and I held on for dear life and cheered them on in Epoch with all I had. I was emotional invested in all three of them. They had embedded themselves in my heart. The situation they were in was unimaginable and so were the choices they all faced. Nate and Griffin are two men that love. Omg do they love. It’s intense and it’s everything. The same can be said about Swayze. She loves so fiercely and wants to do the right thing given her circumstances. They’re the most difficult choices of her life.

The roller coaster ride Jewel E. Ann took me on was indescribable. Tears, snot and a heart that hurt. That was pretty much how I felt throughout most of Epoch. It was excruciating at times but all worth it cause Jewel E. Ann owned me. With her brilliant and unique storyline and mesmerizing prose she owned me. I knew and anticipated that Ann would test me and she did. Her storytelling is brave and captivating. She ventures into topics I usually don’t give a second thought and turns it into magic. She had me spellbound. All I can say get ready to be blown away by Epoch. It’s so much more than EPIC.

He removes his helmet and his bandana while I slide off the Harley. I could watch him all day. The meticulous way he puts our helmets on the shelf and wipes the bugs off his bike mesmerizes me. Griffin takes care of everything he owns-the new shiny things as well as the old, weathered things like his house and garage. "I think you're an old soul, Griffin Calloway." He hangs the rag on the hook and shoots me his sexiest grocery-store-guy smile. "Why is that?" "My parents used to tell people I was wise beyond my years because I knew stuff most kids my age didn't know. That was just knowledge, random facts, not wisdom. But you … you have an appreciation for things and you take care of them like someone twice your age might do." "My parents always took care of things. They still do. It's just how I was raised." He shrugs. "No. Hayley and Sophie are complete disasters. I've seen their rooms. Chloe is a little tidier but still not you. I don't think you were conditioned to be this way, I think it's nature more than nurture." "An old soul, huh? From another time?" He pulls me into his chest and nuzzles my neck while lifting me off my feet. I hug him with my arms, legs, and entire being. It took twenty-one years, but I finally found where I fit in life, and it's every inch of my body pressed to his. "You make me feel safe," I murmur but it sounds more like a moan warring between physical pleasure and emotional pain. It's an unsettling feeling that I have such a strong need to feel safe. I don't understand it. "You are safe," he says between kisses beneath my ear. "You make me feel like I belong." My breaths race to catch up to my pulse. "You belong with me." He walks us to the garage door, shuts off the light, and closes the door behind us. He's my mind's favorite place to go. When I think of him-of us-I don't feel crazy. And maybe I should feel crazy because we're both young and inexperienced in life and love. But I don't want to think about the numbers that make up our ages or the months we've been together. We crash through the front door like the first big gust of wind at the front of a storm. "You make me feel needed," I whisper just before his mouth claims mine. His house is bigger than my apartment, but only by one bedroom. We don't make it to either bedroom. He deposits me on the sofa and shrugs off his shirt. "I need you." He unties his boots and kicks them off while unfastening his pants as I shimmy out of my clothes. "In fact, I am pretty fucking sure you're all I truly need." Twenty-three-year-old guys don't say that. His soul is not simply old, it's ancient like that of a great poet … who may have said fuck a few times. I tug at his partially unfastened jeans. He grabs my hand. "Close your eyes." "Why?" My head cocks to the side. "Because I know you don't want to see the tattoo on my ass." "Shut. Up." I bat his hand away and tug down his jeans with both hands. A few moments of silence settle between us as I stare at his form before me. "I still blush when I look at you." My gaze trails up to meet his eyes. Griffin steps out of his jeans and briefs and kneels on the sofa between my legs as I lie back. "I know what else makes you blush." He slowly dips his head between my legs, and my fingers curl into the sofa cushion.

Cover & Excerpt Reveal - Voyeur by Fiona Cole

Release Date: April 26, 2018
Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs
Photography: Alex Sens

Synopsis

I didn’t know she was my student the first time I paid to watch her at Voyeur. Once she walked into my classroom, another smiling college freshman, I knew I should stop going. Stop watching. But I couldn’t do it. Everything about her makes me want more, and once I realize she wants me too, the temptation becomes irresistible. The worst part is that she has no idea her professor is the one watching behind the glass. I just have to hope that once she finds out the truth, she wants the same thing I do. Because now that I've seen all of her, I can't look away.

Excerpt

Slamming another drawer closed, I looked toward Dr. Pierce’s office, hoping he had heard, and it annoyed him. I refused to think of him as Callum. He’d made it clear this week that he was officially Dr. Pierce.
Abusing his power as my superior, if you asked me. It was the second night he’d kept me later than necessary. The whole office was deserted except for me and him. Every time we spoke, it was Miss Derringer with a distant voice. Lacking all emotion. What the hell had changed from the heated looks in class last week? Was he pissed that I’d refused to stay to talk to him? That I’d called out on Friday?
I’d just needed time to process, the whole situation clouding my mind. Then the entire time I’d worked at Voyeur over the weekend, I’d been looking for him. Constantly waiting for him to walk through the door, come to me and demand I take his request for another repeat. My heart had been erratic every minute I was there, worried that he’d come, more worried that he wouldn’t.
And he hadn’t.
Feeling that desire for him to come to me had cracked open a door to clarity. I wanted him to. For the first time I had a solid feeling of want. Not fear or indecisiveness but want. Want for him to walk through the door and stare at me the same way he had in class.
But he never came and clocking out on Sunday night had been depressing.
I hoped I’d have time to talk to him on Monday, that we would sit and have our lunch and figure it out. But he’d shut his door and told me I should go grab some lunch and be back in an hour. I’d stared at the wood between us with my jaw hanging open. When he finally opened the door again, it was to request I type up meeting notes.
“If you would, Miss. Derringer,” he’d said, gesturing to the papers on the corner of the desk without even bothering to look up from his work. As though those same fingers hadn’t been buried inside me, hadn’t made me come.
That had been the beginning of the benign requests and menial tasks.
Reorganize the beakers.
Rewash the beakers.
File these papers alphabetically. File these numerically.
Make these copies and organize the packets.
Go to the chemistry department and help them move the centrifuge up to our floor.
I was waiting for him to ask me to get on the floor and spit-shine his shoes. I ground my jaw at each request. I hadn’t hoped today would’ve been any better after his completely ignoring my existence in class, but I hadn’t expected him to keep me late. Again.
It made me want to regret having let anything happen between us, but I didn’t. Not really. I missed the friendship we’d formed. I missed sharing lunches with him and laughing over our easy banter. That was the most painful part of all of this.
Even though staying late on a night I had off from Voyeur and could catch up on homework was a close second.
I walked to his office and stared at his head bent over some papers. I knew he knew I was there, but he refused to look up and acknowledge me. Why bother?
“I’m done with everything, Dr. Pierce.” I made sure to stress his name, so he had no doubt I felt his cold shoulder.
“Another thirty minutes and I’ll be ready to lock up. You can help me,” he said, not even bothering to look up.
That was enough. It was after seven and even if we hadn’t shared our experience, I wouldn’t stand for this disrespect. I was sick and tired of him acting like an asshole. I had more than two months left with him, and I wasn’t going to let him think he could walk all over me.
“You can’t keep me here.”
That got his attention. Finally, his head lifted, and he stared at me with blank eyes.
“Excuse me, Miss Derringer?”
I scowled at the Miss Derringer. He saw and a small flicker of something crossed his eyes. Too fast for me to see. I stomped, like a child throwing a temper tantrum, further into the room and slammed the door. No one was around, and the heavy wood banging shut made me feel better.
“I may only be a teenager and you’re my professor, but you can’t take advantage of me like this.”
He laughed. Actually laughed. My eyebrows rose high on my forehead. His head fell back, and mouth opened around the deep rumble escaping into the room to taunt me. I took a deep breath and furrowed my brows. His chest shook with the humor he couldn’t seem to contain.
“This is not fucking funny,” I growled.
Getting himself under control, his eyes were no longer blank when he looked at me. The blue almost glowed in the dimly lit room. I took an involuntary step back as his gaze raked over me, each inch of my body igniting with his stare.
“Oaklyn, trust me when I tell you I see you as anything but a teenager. Anything but than my student.”

Excerpt

The minute Flynn opens the workroom door, my whole body zings with excitement and anticipation. Even with his dark frown, the remoteness surrounding him like an aura, the clipped tone of his voice, I react to him as if he were stroking my hair and whispering sweet nothings in my ear. Jeremy hadn’t come close to eliciting anything even close to this…which is exactly the reason I’ll go out with him again, if he asks me. Jeremy is solid, grounded, honest. Everything about Flynn is a mystery and a fantasy. I’d gotten caught up in a fantasy with David—whose “mystery” had been a lie—and I’d paid the price. Never again. “How was your weekend?” I set my satchel and lunch bag on the desk. “Fine. Yours?” “Great.” I give him a once-over, looking for evidence of an encounter with a chick, but while he looks edible in his worn jeans and T-shirt, like a warm, rumpled bed I could nestle right into, his demeanor is as impassive as ever. Does he ever smile? Every now and then I’ve caught a glimpse of amusement, a twitch of his mouth, but I’ve yet to see him fully smile. “Any special instructions for today?” I turn on the laptop computer and open my notebook. “Stay away from Jeremy King.” Shock bolts down my spine. I jerk my head up to stare at him. He’s watching me with a narrowed gaze, his mouth set in a stern line. “Um…what?” I can’t get another word out. “Stay away from him,” Flynn repeats. “He’s not good for you.” Irritation breaks past my shock. “How would you know who is or isn’t good for me? You’ve barely said twenty words to me the whole week I’ve been working here.” “I don’t need to say anything to know the facts.” His tone hardens. “I don’t want you around him.” “Well, you have no right to tell me that,” I retort. “How did you know I went on a date with him anyway?” His jaw tightens. “You think people around here don’t take notice when their favorite son is out having dinner with the new girl in town?” Christ. I experience a sudden longing for the cold anonymity of a big city. “I know people are talking about me,” I snap. “But I refuse to let gossip dictate what I can and can’t do. And for your information, Jeremy knows about what happened to me, and it didn’t seem to bother him.” “That’s not the point. You can’t work for me and see him.” My shoulders tense. I focus on the computer, hitting the key to bring up the database software. “My date with Jeremy has nothing to do with my work here,” I reply stiffly. “I didn’t, and won’t, tell him anything about the job or the fact that you’re my employer. You don’t need to worry about breach of contract.” “This isn’t about the damned contract.” His voice is suddenly sharp. He steps closer to me, his soapy, warm scent filling my nose. I hold my ground, not wanting him to see me weaken even though I’m melting inside at his nearness. Impassive though he is on the exterior, I can almost feel the energy coursing through him, his heavy strong heartbeat, the rush of his blood. “I don’t want you around King,” he repeats. “Does your animosity have something to do with him wanting to sell the lighthouse?” “I’m not answering questions.” His gray eyes turn the color of metal. “I’m telling you to stay away from him.” My pulse races. “You don’t have that right.” “I’m your boss.” “That doesn’t mean you can make that demand.” The words snap out of my mouth without thought. “And if you think you can threaten to fire me over this, then step back, mister, because I’ve been through the worst wrongful termination I can imagine. And even though my employer fucking won that battle, I still have plenty of fight left in me. I’ll put on my gloves and go another round with you, if I have to.” Wow. Go, Eve. I’m breathing fast, and my knees are quaking with sudden fear that he’ll make me prove my bold statement. I dig my fingernails into my palms. The air between us sparks with electricity. I force myself to hold my ground, to look directly at him and— Admiration flashes in his eyes, like a silver comet streaking across the sky. His stern expression doesn’t change, but that brief glimpse of warmth eases the tension knotting my shoulders. “I’m not going to fire you.” His voice is measured and controlled. “But I will not have you seeing King.” “You don’t like him, so that means I have to stay away from him?” I ask. “Sorry, no. He’s one of the few people in this town who has been nice to me, and I enjoyed our date. I refuse to discount the possibility of Jeremy being my first real friend here.” Flynn’s jaw clenches. “He wants to be more than your friend.” “I know.” I put my hands on my hips and look him in the eye. “He even kissed me.” Anger crashes over his features, and a vein throbs in his forehead. If I didn’t know better, I’d think he was jealous. But I do know better. He’s mad because I’m refusing to do something he wants me to do. Despite, or maybe because of, his isolated lifestyle, Flynn is clearly a man accustomed to getting what he wants. “He kissed you.” The word grind out of his mouth like broken glass. “Yes. And I kissed him back. Like our date, it was nice. Nice hasn’t been the norm in my life lately.” “I could kiss you,” Flynn retorts, his hands fisting. “But it wouldn’t nice.” “Oh yeah?” My heart kicks into gear, blood rushing through my veins. “What would it be, then?” He pulls in a breath, his gaze settling on my mouth. “Hot.” “Prove it.” Borne of my endless nighttime fantasies, the dare flies out of me without thought of the potential repercussions. Before I can take another breath, he grabs my shoulders and pulls me against him. I freeze, stunned by the reality of a moment I’d imagined more times than I can count—the sensation of his body against mine. And God, he feels exactly the way I’d imagined, a solid wall of heat and muscle pulsing with life. Rock-hard arms that could wrap around me so tightly nothing would get past them. He stares down at me, his steel-like gaze sparking with intent like iron striking stone. I can’t move, can’t breathe, can’t think. Then his mouth crashes down on mine, an onslaught, a possession, a claiming. Hunger bursts through me, a desire so sharp and intense it destroys all my defenses in one fell swoop. I moan, everything inside me weakening and aching for more. He slides a hand to my lower back, fitting our bodies together. I yield everywhere, my curves softening against him, any thought of resistance dissolving in a haze of disbelief and craving. I part my lips tentatively, let him inside. My head spins with the taste of him—something decadent and forbidden. Our tongues touch, breath mingling. Arousal floods me, swift and hard, as if all the fantasies in which I’ve indulged have primed me for this moment. I bring my hands up to his face, his stubble coarse against my palms, slide them down to the sides of his neck where his pulse throbs heavily. He’s like the sea—mysterious, unpredictable, powerful. I could get lost in him, drown, let him sweep me away to a distant land where no one knows who I am and what I’ve done. He lifts his head, breaking our kiss and stepping away from me at the same time. Heavy breaths saw from his chest, and his eyes are darkened to black. I bring a shaking hand to my mouth, suddenly unsure if the kiss just happened or if I’m like Alice in Wonderland, spinning downward, lost in my intricate imagination.
