Blog Tour - Look The Part by Jewel E. Ann

LookThePart-SBPRBanner-BT.jpg

“Look The Part is my new top favorite from the inimitable Jewel E. Ann. Delightfully quirky, funny but deeply emotional, Look The Part was pitch perfect. I loved everything about this five-star read!” - USA Today bestseller Ella James

Look the Part, an all-new “emotional and breathtaking” standalone from

Jewel E. Ann is available NOW!

LookThePart Full
Synopsis
Flint Hopkins finds the perfect tenant to rent the space above his Minneapolis-based law office.
All the T’s are crossed and I’s dotted on Ellen’s application. Her references are good. And she’s easy on the eyes.
Until …
Flint discovers Ellen Rodgers, Board-Certified Music Therapist, plays music. Bongos, guitars, singing—not Beethoven administered through noise-cancelling headphones.
The cut-throat attorney serves up an eviction notice to the bubbly, constantly-humming redhead who's too sexy for her own good. But luck is on Ellen’s side when Flint’s autistic son, Harrison, takes an instant liking to her. A single dad can’t compete with guitars—and rats. Yes, she has pet rats.
This woman …
She’s annoyingly happy with a constant need to touch him—adjust his tie, button his shirt, invade his space, and mess with his mind.
Still …
She must go.
Their lust-hate relationship escalates into something beautiful and tragic. This sexy, romantic-comedy explores the things we want, the things we need, and the impossible decisions parents and children make to survive.

There’s a reason why Jewel E. Ann is one of my go to authors cause she never disappoints. I’m pretty sure that I always get a unique and highly emotional story. I was introduced to Flint Hopkins in the book called One and was instantly mesmerized by him. Look The Part can easily be read as a standalone.

Flint Hopkins and Ellen Rodgers carry this book beautifully. They crawled into my heart the moment they appeared in Look The Part. Their interactions and chemistry are incredible. Talk about characters that jump off the pages cause these two do. They’re are so much fun and likable. They both carry the weight of a tragic past and together they find solace in each other. Flint is struggling with his own worth and what he thinks he deserves. His guilt is heartbreaking. He starts his own path to redemption thanks to the extraordinary and spunky Ellen. Her past is also sad but is such a positive person and tries the best she can to move on and her meeting with Flint changes everything. Her bantering with Flint is definitely a highlight of mine. Omg! So much heart and soul in every interaction between them. They both awaken something in one another. The need, want and lust for more in their lives.

The secondary characters are just as important as Flint and Ellen. Flint’s son Harrison, Ellen and Flint’s parents. I loved them so much. They’re so important for the story, for Flint and Ellen’s relationship. Ellen and her father Jon definitely made me tear up and so did Flint and his relationship with his autistic son Harrison. The change not only Ellen and Flint goes through but also Harrison, thanks to Ellen, are extraordinary and flawlessly executed.

Look The Part is another smash from Jewel E. Ann. She can do nothing wrong. Her character development is phenomenal. There’s so much heart and soul in this story and the characters. I’m surprised how hard this story hit me. So beautiful, emotional and fun. Look The Part is another favorite of mine from the talented Jewel E. Ann.

Excerpt:

There’s something thrilling, even a little forbidden, about a man in a perfectly-tailored suit. Flint Hopkins wears the hell out of a three-piece suit. Not a single wrinkle. Not a hair out of place. Not a scuff mark on his shiny shoes. His lips move, but all I hear is “I wore this suit for you today” as his hands make their rounds: caressing the buttons on his jacket, twisting his cufflinks, and adjusting his tie. It’s sophisticated fidgeting. “You said you’re a therapist, not a music teacher.” Observant men are sexy too. “I did. And I am. Specifically, I’m a music therapist. Do you want me to explain what a music therapist does?” “No. I just want you to look for a different space to rent. I’ll give you two weeks.” He turns and makes it out the door in three long strides. My toes are on his heels in seconds, chasing him down the stairs. “Wait? You’re evicting me?” “I’m giving you notice.” “Notice? You’re kicking me out for what? Doing my job?” “Preventing me from doing mine.” He pushes through the door at the bottom of the stairs and makes a sharp right. “Hey, Boss, how’d it—” Amanda’s gaze moves from Flint to me as I follow him into his office. “Hi, Amanda. Would you happen to have the name of a good real estate attorney? I may need to sue my landlord for wrongful eviction.” “Um …” Flint turns, halting my forward momentum a second shy of slamming into his chest. “Shut my door, Amanda.” His eyes narrow. I don’t care how hot this guy looks in a suit. I won’t recoil under his glower. “Please leave it open, Amanda. I may need you to be my witness.” Arrogance tugs at his mouth. “A witness?” “For when you threaten me.” He unbuttons his jacket and takes a step back. A whoosh of oxygen leaves my chest like it’s attached to him. The man has an air of confidence and mystery about him that commands attention. When he turned around to face me a few seconds ago, I sensed the slightest agitation in his narrowed eyes and flared nostrils, but not anymore. It’s not hard to imagine Flint Hopkins in a courtroom—cool, calculated, ruthless. “You seem to be an intelligent person, so surely you can see how the noise level of your profession could distract me from doing mine. I think sharing space with other businesses is not a good idea. You need a building of your own or maybe you should work out of your house.” “I live in an apartment. And I’m sorry, Mr. Money Bags, but I don’t have the cash flow to buy or rent a building all to myself. You’re an attorney. How often are you even in your office? And when you are, what are you doing that requires complete silence? Charming snakes? Narrating audio books?”

Review of Suddenly Forbidden by Ella Fields

I thought he'd always be mine,
even when I was forced to say goodbye.

We were never meant to let go,
but it happened anyway.
Too bad I didn’t know someone was waiting to take my place, or I would've held on a lot tighter.

Two years later, we were exactly where we'd always planned to be.
I'd kept my promise.
He'd forgotten all about his.
Not only had he moved on, but the person he'd moved on with was my best friend, leaving me to begin college with a broken heart.

I guess this is the part where I’m supposed to tell you some other guy stepped in, repaired my shattered pieces, and made me smile again.

This isn't that kind of story.

My heart might have been broken, but it refused to fall out of love.

After reading her previous three books Ella Fields still manages to render me speechless and emotional to the core with her flawless and captivating prose and her well developed characters. I devoured Suddenly Forbidden like there was no tomorrow

I established a connection with Daisy June and Quinton very early on. Ella Fields lays a strong foundation for Daisy and Quinn in the first couple of chapters and I was immediately invested in them and their story. The switch between past and present was executed to perfection which showed why their love was forever and them inseparable.
The angst and emotion throughout the story was excruciating at times. Fields succeeds in
capturing the hurt, powerlessness and love in the characters and their actions. My heart felt liked it was being squeezed cause it hurt so badly. Yes, there’s angst but there’s definitely also romance and love. A true and forever love.

Daisy and Quinn are two fabulous characters who’ve know each other since they were seven/eight years old. Their friendship turns into a love that’s forever. Irrevocably unique and theirs. They make promises but of course promises are meant to be broken and that’s what happens.
Daisy and Quinn’s road back to each other is incredible filled with so many memories between them. Good and bad.
The secondary characters are terrific especially Pippa who’s a wonderful support for Daisy.

I went through every emotion as I tend to do when I read an Ella Fields book. Again I’m head over heels in love with her storytelling and her words. Suddenly Forbidden is about love, friendship and forgiveness. I felt it all and can only recommend this stunning second chance romance to everyone.

Midnight Blue
Author: LJ Shen
Release Date: January 18th
It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Sounds familiar? That’s because it was a headline in a tabloid the second time he got arrested.
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.
Excerpt:
Nat’s words came back and haunted me like a bad haircut from the eighties. An irrational need to check the goods took over me. It wasn’t like he minded. According to the rumors, his dick had seen more cameras than Kendall Jenner. Slowly—so painfully slowly—my eyes drifted down his sinewy body. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Whatever I had in mind, though, didn’t come close to the real thing. Thick, long but not atrocious. With thin veins running through its length. “Nice view?” he groaned, tucking his junk back into his briefs. His profile was glorious. Strong jaw, pouty lips, eyes like sex… My eyes snapped up when I realized he was talking to me. “I wasn’t…” “Looking? Yes, you were. Next time take a picture. It lasts longer.” He rolled his zipper upward and flushed the toilet with the toe of his boot. He turned around and squirted soap into his palm, washing his hands almost violently—rubbing between each finger and scratching his knuckles like he wanted to shed his own skin. When he was done, he looked around for a towel. I cleared my throat, scrambling to regain my wits. “Longer than the glimpse or longer than your performance?” Casually—so unbearably casually—he wiped his wet hands over my purple dress. I gasped, moving sideways. It looked like he was about to open the door and get out, but before I had the chance to yell at him for using me as a human towel, he slammed me against the wall, bracing both his arms above my head and pinning me to my spot. I let out a shriek of surprise at the sudden proximity. Alex Winslow is touching me. Willingly, my surprisingly pitiful brain squealed. Heat rolled off his body, making my back arch and my breath catch in my throat. “Let’s make one thing clear—I could fuck you to a point of numbness without even breaking a sweat if I wanted to. Now, careful, New Girl. If you don’t keep your distance from me, I think I just might.”

I’ve read every book from L.J. Shen and I’ve enjoyed them all so I’m sad to say that Midnight Blue was somewhat disappointing. I liked Midnight Blue but I wasn’t blown away. I was certainly entertained and omg how I love Shen’s impeccable and stunning prose. Her imagery is spectacular.

I guess my expectations got the better of me. I struggled with the characters. I felt Alex was the classic stereotype rockstar. Over the top and too much at times but luckily I warmed up to him. It was just too late in the story to matter. Indie was a great character. Her family history was emotional and I definitely felt it. I struggled with her and Alex as a couple. Their bantering and push and pull games was great and delivered some laughs and heart but I struggled when it came to the intimacy and emotional connection between them. I just didn’t feel it. Maybe that’s because Indie wasn’t nothing but a conquest to Alex so when it turned to love it wasn’t believable to me.
Although the epilogue was fast paced it delivered a satisfying ending to Indie and Alex’s story.

This might not be my favorite L.J Shen book but I still recommend it cause her writing is fabulous and the story ok. I’ll definitely be back when her next book releases.

With a bottle of wine in my hand and a plan to seduce my fiancée, I stuck my key in the door, ready to claim my prize, until I heard the feral, agonized scream on the other side of the door. My fingers fumbled, and I almost dropped the keys. Frantically, I shoved the key into the lock and slammed the door open, running down the hallway, wine bottle overhead, ready to use it as a weapon. I slid into the great area and looked to the right to see the living room empty.
I looked to the left to find a distraught Ana, her chest heaving over quick breaths as she glared at the TV.
"Fuck, Ana. Are you okay?" I barely got the words out, my heart pounding a thousand miles a minute, trying to come down from the adrenaline coursing through my body. I took a deep breath and walked toward the island to set the wine down. "Ana." I said her name again when her eyes glazed over with tears.
“Our church.” That was all she said, barely croaking it out as she lifted her hand, gesturing toward the TV.
“What?” I rounded the island, approaching her like I would a wild animal.
“Our church, it’s gone.” The first tear fell when I reached her, and I pulled her into my arms. Rocking her, I looked to see what was on TV, and sure enough, there was a newscast covering how the church we were supposed to get married in had burnt down. Fuck me. Ana loved that church.
“Shh. Shh.” I ran my hands down her long hair. “We’ll find a new one.”
“Find a new one?” She jerked her head back, brows lowered, mouth pinched. “That church was a miracle, and now it's fucking gone. Where are we going to find another church, Kevin?" She pulled out of my arms with a humorless laugh. "We'll add it to the list, right after a new bakery." Running her hands through her hair, she walked to the edge of the island and tossed her arms wide. "Oh, yeah. We need to find another florist because we won't be able to get our flowers after some twelve-year-old fucked it all up."
“What?” I was trying to follow what she was saying, but the way she rambled and was choking back sobs made it difficult. My mind was spinning with ways to keep up. "The flowers?"
“Yeah, just got off a phone call with them.” She turned to me with sad, defeated eyes and just stared. I held her gaze, trying to see what to do next. Her chest moved faster and faster like she couldn't control her breathing. "Fuck!" she shouted, turning to lean over the counter. "Fuck this stupid wedding. Fuck the people. Fuck the flowers. Fuck the cake. Fuck everything. This is so fuck—”
“That’s enough.” My voice was hard and loud, demanding she stop. Her fists clenched against the granite and her hair fell like a curtain, hiding her face from me. I had to stop her from spiraling out of control. And I only knew one way to do it. It may not have been exactly how I planned our night going, but she needed me to take control and give her a reprieve from thinking about the wedding. “Kneel.”
She stood, shaking her head. “Kevin, I’m not in the—.”
“I said, kneel.” I deepened my tone, not allowing any question whether I was serious and not taking no for an answer. When she turned to look at me finally, I made my eyes hard, steady, ready to take on her pain. She took in a shaky breath as she faced me. “I won’t say it again, Anabelle.”
Swallowing hard, she knelt.
I turned the TV off and walked over to her before burrowing my hands into her hair to pull it off her face. Fisting it tight, I jerked her head back, so she had no choice but to look at me. “Take my cock out—quickly—and get me hard. Use your mouth.”

Cover Reveal - In Harmony by Emma Scott

In Harmony by Emma Scott
Release Date: Tuesday, February 13, 2018

The root of all madness is an unbearable truth…

At seventeen, Willow Holloway’s life was torn apart. The happy, driven girl is gone, and she is left wracked by post-traumatic stress her body remembers even if she does not. When her father suddenly uproots the family from their posh penthouse in New York City to the tiny town of Harmony, Indiana, Willow becomes more untethered and lost under the weight of her secret. On a whim, she auditions for a part in the community theater’s production of Hamlet and unexpectedly wins the role of Ophelia—the girl who is undone by madness, and her love of Hamlet…

Isaac Pierce is from the ‘wrong side of the tracks.’ The town bad boy. Girls pine for his attention and guys are in awe of him. That he’s an acting prodigy only adds to his charisma. Isaac utterly disappears into his characters; the stage is the only place he feels safe from his own traumatic home life. He wants nothing more than to escape to Broadway or Hollywood, and leave Harmony behind for good.

No one can play Hamlet but Isaac, and when the director pairs him with Willow in acting class, they clash again and again—neither willing to open their hearts to anyone. But clashing leads to breaking, breaking leads to the spilling of terrible secrets, and soon Isaac and Willow find Shakespeare’s words mirroring their lives. When they are cruelly torn apart, neither know how this play will end—with madness and heartache? Or healing, love, and the discovery of who they are truly meant to be.

In Harmony is a standalone NEW ADULT love story, and is intended for readers 18 and up. PLEASE NOTE, this book contains sensitive material such as physical abuse, and the aftermath of sexual assault (off the page). Reader discretion is advised.
